Led by our instructor Kim Johnson, LMHC, MT-BC, in this music therapy and education group, participants will learn basic percussion techniques, engage in rich discussion about mental health topics faced by LQBTQ+ individuals, and learn a variety of coping strategies, including mindfulness, to increase their overall wellness.
This group has two sections, one in Providence and one in Foster, RI at our partner Trans-FARM-ative. Each section will meet once a month on Thursdays from 4-6pm in June, July, August and September. An additional final showcase, in collaboration with our art and dance programs, will punctuate the program.
Instruments and equipment for lessons will be provided by the program, when needed.
The PVD House music therapy program provides group music classes for queer, curious, or allied people of all musical abilities who have an interest in exploring music, new ways of expressing themselves and building supportive relationships in a safe, affirming environment.
Our music therapy class is in search of recording equipment and musical instruments to enhance the experience for our students. If you have musical equipment or recording equipment consider donating to our cause.
